BIMA Sri Lanka with local partners Dialog (mobile operator) and Ceylinco (underwriters) have paid out the 10,000th claim on their Hospitalisation Support Plan. The payout represents a significant milestone for the partnership, and the local microinsurance industry, which proves that families across the country are extracting value from insurance products.

Such strong claims performance is the result of BIMA’s unique approach that builds products and distribution models around the needs of the customer. In Sir Lanka, the team has revised the Hospital Support Plan product several times, altering restrictions and adding new features such as dengue fever cover, so as many people as possible can make a claim. Claims are further encouraged through product education; BIMA agents ensure that every Dialog insurance customer knows what they are buying and how they can use it.

Claims Manager Dhakshiga Somasundaram commented, “We are so proud to reach this milestone and prove that microinsurance can transform the lives of hardworking families across Sri Lanka”.

Country Manager for BIMA Sri Lanka praised the dedication and passion of the local team, adding, “Even though we pay out an industry-leading number of claims, the team is always looking for ways to improve the product.”
