Mathilda Ström, Deputy CEO and Head of Business Development for BIMA, the mobile microinsurance pioneer, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Microinsurance Network. The Microinsurance Network is the only global multi-stakeholder platform of the microinsurance industry and experts, with some 80 institutional members from over 40 countries, committed to promoting the development and delivery of effective risk management tools, including insurance services, for unserved people.

She will serve as Board member for two years (2017-18), working with the other directors to provide strategic guidance and oversight to ensure the Network meets its goals in an effective and impactful manner.

 

Mathilda played a key role when building BIMA into a global industry leader, bringing insurance to over 30 million subscribers in 14 countries. Her experience will provide the Network with insight into technology, regulation and operational excellence in the mobile insurance space.

 

Mathilda’s appointment reflects the growing importance of digital platforms as a distribution channel for insurance in emerging markets, and their unique potential to reach scale. Commenting on her appointment, Mathilda said “I very much look forward to working with the Microinsurance Network Board, adding particular value in the digital space.
