The Mobile Money for the Unbanked (MMU) department of the GSMA has recently published a report on the emerging practices in mobile microinsurance.

 

The report describes the role for mobile operators to improve insurance penetration in emerging markets using its core competencies like distribution, while reaping the loyalty benefits that insurance products can bring. In the report, intermediaries, such as BIMA, were highlighted as being instrumental in bringing innovation and success to this today nascent form of Value Added Service.

 

A number of interesting case studies are highlighted, including the BIMA models in Ghana and Tanzania, and the report serves as a unique insight into the rapidly growing mobile microsinurance opportunity around the globe – the next killer app? We think so…
