BIMA’s mobile insurance service in Ghana was featured in The Guardian this week. Mark Tran’s article covered the issues faced by mobile network operators in retaining customers as users switch between operators in search of the best deals and how mobile operators in Africa are combating this by providing mobile insurance to increase loyalty.
The success of BIMA’s model means “Tigo more than doubled the size of the insurance market. According to the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (Cgap), housed in the World Bank, Tigo’s family care programme provides insurance for nearly 1 million clients, taking the number of adult Ghanaians with some kind of insurance to more than 1.7 million.” says Trans.
