Jakarta: Bima and XL Axiata have launched a new free micro-life insurance product, XL Asuransi, in Indonesia. The product rewards any prepaid mobile subscriber of XL with free life insurance cover, in exchange for staying loyal to XL and using a minimum amount of airtime each month. Bima and XL have launched the product in partnership with Equity Life Indonesia, a licensed insurance company in Indonesia.

The product is the first loyalty-based insurance offer by a mobile telecommunications operator in Indonesia. The innovative design allows any registered prepaid mobile subscriber of XL, between the age of 17 – 59 years, to earn and accumulate free life insurance cover, as long as the subscriber uses a minimum of IDR30,000 (USD3) in airtime within one calendar month. The more airtime is used, the more quickly insurance cover can be earned. Each subscriber has the opportunity to earn up to IDR5,000,000 (USD500) worth of life insurance cover over time. To maintain the insurance cover earned, a subscriber only needs to use at least IDR25,000 (USD2.50) in airtime each month.

To register for the product, XL’s prepaid mobile subscribers can either dial *123*500# to perform self-service registration through USSD, dial 817 to contact the XL Asuransi customer service hotline, or visit selected XL Centers where they will receive assistance from a Bima agent. The product is currently being offered primarily in the Jabodetabek region, Bandung, Solo, Yogyakarta and Bali, and will roll out in other regions in due course.

Nicanor V Santiago III, Director of Marketing at XL, said “Life insurance is one important form of protection that has not been widely known to the public. Through this service, customers can have the protection of a free soul with ease.”*
